Did you have toast for breakfast? It was scrumptious, wasn’t it? Now imagine how much better it would’ve tasted if the charred visage of one of your favourite hockey players was staring back at you as you took your first bite.
Each hockey star is featured in their own custom commercial, which Canadian Tire released Thursday morning.
Gretzky caps off his commercial with some sound and incontrovertible logic: “You miss 100 per cent of the bread that you don’t toast.”
When you hear the term “aerodynamic edges” two things immediately come to mind: Connor McDavid and toasters. That’s why this partnership was a match made in crunchy bread heaven.
“It’s the best thing since sliced bread…and it’s for sliced bread,” the Edmonton Oilers captain quipped with an introspective look in his eyes, presumably debating internally whether or not to spread smooth or chunky peanut butter on his lovely toast.
Toews admits he doesn’t eat bread, but even if you don’t eat it you can still toast it. That’s the beauty of toast, right? If the Chicago Blackhawks star’s new nickname isn’t “Toews-ter” it will be a real travesty.
As the commercials indicate: “This is a real product. You can really buy this. Like, for real.”
All proceeds from the toasters go to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart charity. They can be purchased online on Nov. 20.
