Wellwood signs one-year deal with St. Louis

The St. Louis Blues signed free agent forward Kyle Wellwood to a one-year contract on Monday.

Wellwood, 27, has made 25 appearances with the Kontinental Hockey League’s Mytishchi Atlant this season, recording eight points including five goals and three assists. In 2009-10, the 5’10", 181-pound forward tallied 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists) in 75 regular season games with the Vancouver Canucks as well as two goals and five assists in 12 playoff outings. For his career, Wellwood has played in 338 NHL games over six seasons, accumulating 160 points including 63 goals and 97 assists. He has recorded 10-plus goals in four out of six seasons including a career-high 18 goals in 2008-09.

The Windsor, Ontario native was originally drafted by Toronto in the fifth round, 134th overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
