Watch Connor McDavid: Whatever It Takes documentary on Sunday

In the final game of the 2018-19 season, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid suffered what could’ve been a career-ending injury when he slid hard into the Calgary Flames net.

“I felt my leg slam into the metal post and thought it was in two pieces,” McDavid said. “I was terrified to stand up… wondering if my career would be over.”

The official diagnosis was a PCL tear in his left knee and the injury would set McDavid off on one of the most advanced non-surgical rehabilitation programs ever attempted by a star athlete. His recovery was captured in the new documentary ‘Connor McDavid: Whatever It Takes’, which will air on Sportsnet this Friday following the NHL All-Star Skills Competition.

With the help of Dr. Mark Lindsay, Gary Roberts and a team of physiotherapists and coaches, McDavid had only one goal in mind: return for the first game of the regular season, which was only six months away.

“This type of major rehab has never been done before; it’s groundbreaking stuff,” Dr. Lindsay said.

The documentary follows the physical and emotional battle of the most challenging off-season of McDavid’s career, with full access to McDavid and his entire team throughout the process.

Watch the documentary on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet ONE.
