Vladimir Tarasenko’s NHL breakout came in 2013–14 and the St. Louis Blues right-winger has been an elite-level sniper since the start of last season, so there’s no way you’d pass him over for some guy who’s just now realizing his potential, right? Well, wait just a hot Russian second. Evgeny Kuznetsov, who’s about six months younger than his countryman, is putting up big-time points in his second full season with the Washington Capitals. Long viewed as a tantalizing talent, Kuznetsov plays centre, meaning he mans a more vital position than Tarasenko. The former has also played nearly 100 fewer NHL games than the latter, so how good will he be with another season’s worth of experience? Because of their differing styles—Tarasenko is a pure finisher, while Kuznetsov racks up more assists—deciding who you’d want more on your team depends somewhat on personal preference. We’ll stick with the more proven Tarasenko right now, but check back in a year.
