Why everyone loves Willie Desjardins

Everyone I’ve talked to who has played for Willie Desjardins in the past (and since we were just in Dallas there were plenty to talk to) says how much they loved him as a coach. We got a glimpse why when he offered up this during his post-game comments in St. Louis:

“When I took (Miller) out in Dallas, I went down the bench a couple of minutes later and said ‘You’ll be starting in St. Louis.’”

Players love to know where they stand and Desjardins didn’t let Miller stew and wonder if he’d get the start he wanted against the Blues after being pulled against the Stars. That will go a long way.

MORE MILLER
After the disaster in Dallas, Miller said: “I think we can classify this as really not my night.”

Classic. You should check out Justin Bourne’s explanation as to why it wasn’t Miller’s night.

OTTAWA
There’s not much I can add about the tragic events that took place in Ottawa earlier this week as so much has already been written. I attended the University of Ottawa and during my years there I visited the National War Memorial and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier many times. It’s a special place and if you haven’t been, please try and make an effort to get there.

The Canucks were there on Remembrance Day in 2010 as Mike Gillis and Alain Vigneault decided (correctly) the Canucks were better off taking in the ceremony instead of a game day skate.

If you’re a Canadian, visiting our nation’s capital on Remembrance Day and Canada Day should definitely be on your bucket list.

By the way, the police officer in our section that day was none other than former CFL running back (and Ottawa U classmate of mine) Darren Joseph.

OTTAWA, PART 2
Following practise on Nov. 10, 2010, the Canucks were on the bus when they were informed the entire squad would forgo the next day’s morning skate to take in the ceremonies and someone (I suspect the always-sarcastic Keith Ballard) piped up from the back, “Even Hoffer?” The remark got a smile out of everyone, including Christian Erhoff himself.
