World Cup training camp and exhibition schedules released

Peter Chiarelli, Brian Burke and Doug Armstrong sit down with Darren Millard to discuss what it is like the put together a World Cup of Hockey team and how international rivalries will be renewed when the competition starts in Toronto.

The NHL and NHLPA unveiled details for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey’s training camp and pre-tournament schedule Wednesday.

Training camps begin Sept. 4-5, with a total of 12 exhibition games to follow. The eight participating teams will play three pre-tournament games ahead of the start of preliminary round, which starts Sept. 17.

Training camp information, via an official release, is as follows.

Group play begins with the preliminary round on Saturday, September 17, with all games taking place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Participants have been divided into two groups with Canada, Czech Republic, Europe, and USA representing Group A. Group B is made up of Finland, North America, Russia, and Sweden.

The pre-tournament schedule will begin September 8. Here’s how it shakes down:

Semi-finals are set to take place on September 24-25. The final will be a best-of-three, which is set to start Sept. 27. Game 2 goes Sept. 29, and Game 3 (if necessary) goes October 1.
