OHL Roundup: Howdeshell completes comeback, Greyhounds beat Storm

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. — Keeghan Howdeshell scored late to send the game to overtime, then potted the winner 20 seconds into the extra period as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds came from behind to beat the Guelph Storm 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

The Greyhounds (12-3-3), who are 9-0-2 in their last 11 to move up to No. 8 in the CHL weekly rankings, trailed 3-0 in the second period before Mac Hollowell put them on the board at 14:27.

Ryan Roth made it a 3-2 game at 14:27 of the third, and Howdeshell followed with the tying goal with 40 seconds to go in regulation while playing 6-on-5.

Liam Hawel, Cam Hillis and Keegan Stevenson built up a three-goal lead for the Storm (9-4-3) by the 11-minute mark of the second.

Matthew Villalta made 19 saves for the win as Anthony Popovich kicked out 25-of-29 shots in a losing cause.

Sault Ste. Marie went 0 for 4 on the power play while Guelph scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

PETES 4 FRONTENACS 3

KINGSTON, Ont. — Christopher Paquette had a pair of goals as Peterborough hung on to hand the Frontenacs their third straight loss.

Max Grondin and Cole Fraser also scored for the Petes (11-7-0), who got 24 saves from Hunter Jones.

Brett Neumann, Matt Hotchkiss and Luke Drewitt replied for Kingston (4-12-1). Brendan Bonello stopped 27 shots in defeat.

STEELHEADS 4 ICEDOGS 2

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Owen Tippett scored twice as the Steelheads snapped a four-game losing streak while also halting Niagara’s five-game win streak.

Cole Carter and Michael Little also scored for Mississauga (9-5-2). Jacob Ingham turned away 37-of-39 shots for the victory.

Philip Tomasino and Liam Ham found the back of the net for the IceDogs (10-5-2). Stephen Dhillon made 28 saves in defeat.

WOLVES 6 OTTERS 1

SUDBURY, Ont. — David Levin had two goals and an assist as the Wolves snapped a three-game slide with a win over Erie.

Peter Stratis, Nolan Hutcheson, Kirill Nizhnikov and Darian Pilon also scored for the Wolves (9-6-1) while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 23 saves for the win.

Hayden Fowler scored for the Otters (7-8-1). Daniel Murphy allowed three goals on five shots in 12 minutes of action for the loss. Noah Battaglia stopped 18-of-21 shots in 47:49 of relief.

SPITFIRES 3 RANGERS 0

KITCHENER, Ont. — Backup netminder Kari Piiroinen stopped all 34 shots that came his way as Windsor blanked the Rangers.

Curtis Douglas, Cody Morgan and Tyler Angle supplied the offence for the Spitfires (7-9-1).

Luke Richardson turned aside 24-of-27 shots for the Rangers (7-7-2).

KNIGHTS 6 FIREBIRDS 2

LONDON, Ont. — Cole Tymkin had a pair of goals and Connor McMichael had a goal and two helpers as the Knights dealt Flint its 16th loss in a row to begin the season.

Dalton Duhart, Antonio Stranges and Nathan Dunkley rounded out the attack for the Knights (8-4-2). Joseph Raaymakers made 25 saves for the win.

The Firebirds (0-15-1) got goals from Eric Uba and Ty Dellandrea. Luke Cavallin stopped 35-of-41 shots in a losing cause.

ATTACK 6 GENERALS 4

OSHAWA, Ont. — Kevin Hancock had two goals and two assists while Aidan Dudas also struck twice as Owen Sound toppled the Generals.

Nick Suzuki scored the winner at 16:43 of the third period while Zachary Roberts also scored for the Attack (9-6-1). Mack Guzda made 21 saves before giving way to Andrew MacLean, who made three saves in 12:09 of relief to get the win.

Nando Eggenberger, William Ennis, Jack Studnicka and Ian Blacker scored for Oshawa (8-6-2). Cole Ceci made 22 saves in a losing cause.
