WHL Roundup: Pats top Hurricanes in lengthy SO

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Adam Brooks and Austin Wagner both scored in a seven-round shootout as the Regina Pats edged the Lethbridge Hurricanes 9-8 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Lane Zablocki had a hat trick — including the goal that forced overtime — for Regina’s (30-23-7) seventh win in a row. Cole Sanford struck twice and added an assist for the Pats, while Wagner, Sam Steel and Rykr Cole also scored.

Tyler Brown made 47 saves and turned away six of seven skaters in the shootout to earn the win.

Colton Kroeker had a hat trick as part of a five-point night for Lethbridge (40-19-2). Captain Tyler Wong scored twice and added four assists, while Ryley Lindgren, Brayden Burke and Brady Reagan rounded out the attack.

Stuart Skinner started in net for the Hurricanes, put was pulled after stopping 1-of-5 shots in the first 10:09 of play. Jayden Sittler turned aside 37-of-41 shots in relief.

The Pats went 1 for 4 on the power play and Lethbridge was 2 for 4.

RAIDERS 3 BRONCOS 2 (OT)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Reid Gardiner scored in overtime to lift the Raiders over visiting Swift Current.

Jordan Tkatch and Hunter Warner also scored for Prince Albert (33-20-8).

Tyler Steenbergen had a short-handed goal and a power-play goal for the Broncos (21-31-8).

OIL KINGS 5 WINTERHAWKS 1

EDMONTON — Kole Gable had back-to-back goals as the Oil Kings reeled off four unanswered goals to down Portland.

Jordan Dawson and Colton Kehler also scored as Edmonton (26-28-7) took the lead. Aaron Irving opened the scoring.

Rihards Bukarts replied for the Winterhawks (31-27-3).

WHEAT KINGS 4 ICE 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Nolan Patrick’s power-play goal 3:36 into the third period served as the winner Brandon topped Kootenay.

Kale Clague and John Quenneville also scored as the Wheat Kings (38-18-5) had three straight goals to rally to the win. James Shearer had a goal as well.

Austin Wellsby and Jared Legien supplied the offence for the Ice (10-45-5).

CHIEFS 1 COUGARS 0

SPOKANE, Wash. — Lasse Petersen made 30 saves as the Chiefs blanked Prince George.

Jacob Cardiff’s goal was all Spokane (29-23-8) needed for the win.

Nick McBride stopped 29 shots for the Cougars (32-25-4), who have lost three straight.

ROCKETS 6 SILVERTIPS 5 (OT)

EVERETT, Wash. — Justin Kirkland scored in overtime as Kelowna eked out a win over the Silvertips.

Calvin Thurkauf and Tyson Baillie had two goals apiece for the Rockets (42-16-3), while Tomas Soustal added a single.

Patrick Bajkov, Matt Fonteyne, Dario Winkler and Connor Dewar all scored in the third period as Everett (35-20-5) forced overtime. Devon Skoleski converted on a penalty shot for the Silvertips.
