Aaron Ekblad to return to Florida after suffering neck injury

Florida Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad is reportedly leaving the World Cup of Hockey tournament to return to Florida where he will be evaluated by team doctors.

Ekblad, a member of Team North America, suffered an upper-body injury in the team’s game Sunday night. Sportsnet’s Mark Spector confirmed it was a neck injury.

The 20-year-old defenceman signed an eight-year, $60-million contract this summer with the Panthers which will kick in for the 2017-18 season.
