Jeff Carter will miss World Cup with lower-body injury

A glut of top-tier defencemen and goalies will have Mike Babcock trying to fit all the puzzle pieces together when the World Cup of Hockey hits. Chris Johnston breaks down the questions facing the team’s staff.

According to a report from Jon Rosen of lakingsinsider.com, Jeff Carter has sustained a lower-body injury that will keep him out of the World Cup of Hockey. As a result, Team Canada announced that Corey Perry would replace him.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman initially reported on Friday that there was some question about Carter’s health and availability.

According to Rosen, the injury was sustained while Carter was training and the Kings consider it “week-to-week.”

Rosen notes that the feeling is the injury isn’t major.

Carter is coming off a season in which he scored 24 goals and 62 points in 77 games. He was part of Canada’s gold medal-winning entry at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, scoring three goals and five points in six games.
