Woodbine Oaks winner Luster was among the probable entries announced Thursday for the 167th running of the King’s Plate in Toronto.
Luster, who dominated the Oaks on July 19, returns to Woodbine Racetrack for the first jewel in the Canadian Triple Crown on Aug. 15.
Moira was the last horse to capture both the Woodbine Oaks and King’s Plate in the same year in 2022.
HighwayTotheMoon, who claimed the Plate Trial at Woodbine the same day Luster took the Oaks, was also among Plate entries.
The Oaks and Plate Trial are key prep events for the $1-million King's Plate and indicators of potential contention because they’re run over the same distance (1 1/8 miles) and surface (Woodbine's Tapeta course).
Luster, a filly, is trained by Josie Carroll, who was the first female trainer to win the Plate in 2006 with Edenwold. The gelding HighwayTotheMoon is trained by Dale Desruisseaux.
Also listed in the probable field were Baaeed Alynna, Bond Market, Branchetto, Casson, Dixie Law, Don Ique, Fire and Wine, ImYourMedicineMan, Magical Factor, Military Time and Very Special.
Carroll (Luster, Don Ique), Desruisseaux (HighwayTotheMoon, Dixie Law), Mark Casse (Military Time, Casson) and Kevin Attard (Baaeed Alynna, Very Special) each have dual entries in the Plate.
The post position draw for the Plate, which is North America's oldest continuous stakes race, is Tuesday at Woodbine.
The race, previously known as the Queen's Plate, reflects the title of the reigning Canadian monarch.
Mansetti was victorious in the 2025 edition.
The Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie Race Track on Sept. 7 and The Breeders' Stakes on Sept. 27 at Woodbine complete the Triple Crown.
