Moiseyev looks to make history at Mohawk

CAMPBELLVILLE, Ont. — When the 37th edition of the $1 million Canadian Trotting Classic takes place this Saturday at Mohawk, driver Jack Moiseyev will look to do what no other driver has done before in the rich classic.

Moiseyev will look to become the first driver in the event’s history to post back-to-back wins.

Moiseyev, who guided Daylon Magician to victory in the 2011 edition, hopes to find himself in a similar situation when he teams up with Gym Tan Laundry in this year’s dash.

“There’s always a chance it could happen,” said Moiseyev about the possibility of scoring two consecutive Canadian Trotting Classic titles. “I feel pretty confident as I usually do going into big races. After the way he raced last week, I got a shot.”

The son of Yankee Glide finished a very strong second in his elimination, beaten by just a nose to Knows Nothing in 1:52.4.

“I used him a little bit leaving then I retook and I thought Jody’s horse, Knows Nothing, was going to blow right by me, but he had a tough time and only beat me by a whisker,” Moiseyev said. “It was pretty impressive, he raced really well.”

Moiseyev, a resident of Moffat, has accumulated over $126 million in purse earnings in his career and will look to add to that in the covenant classic this Saturday.

“He’s a real good gaited horse and he’s learning how to finish a little better than he did earlier in the summer,” said the veteran reinsman of the gelding with $288,315 in career earnings. “He’s got a shot to win.”

Trainer Mike Vanderkemp and owners Adam Victor And Son Stble will also look to capture their second ‘Classic.’

The pair teamed up in 2003 when Mr Muscleman got under the wire first for driver Ron Pierce. The bay gelding went on to earn $4,032,206 in career earnings and retired as one of the greatest trotters of all-time.

When Moiseyev leaves post six in the $1 million event, the decorated horseman will look to add a new accomplishment to his impressive resume.

The field will line up as follows:

1. Market Share

2. Solvato

3. Little Brown Fox

4. Knows Nothing

5. Money On My Mind

6. Gym Tan Laundry

7. My MVP

8. Guccio

10. Appomattox
