Ahead of its final preliminary round game at the world championship, Team Canada is making a roster change.
Forward Porter Martone was added to Canada's roster Tuesday as it was announced that Bo Horvat will miss the remainder of the tournament.
Horvat, 30, had played in all six of Canada's games so far, recording four goals, two of them game winners, as well as four assists.
The New York Islanders centre was coming off a season that saw him total 57 points (28 goals and 29 assists) in 81 games.
The Islanders said Horvat sustained a lower-body injury and is returning to New York to see the team's doctors.
Martone, 18, is considered a top prospect eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft in June.
Across 57 regular-season games with the Brampton Steelheads of the OHL, Martone recorded a team-leading 98 points (37 goals and 61 assists). He then added nine points in six playoff games
From Peterborough, Ont., Martone was a member of the Team Canada squad that finished fifth at this past winter’s World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa.
Through six games, Canada sits second in Group A with 16 points, two back of Sweden. The two teams meet on Tuesday in Stockholm to close out group play.
