Michael Misa is headed to Team Canada.
The San Jose Sharks loaned the forward to Canada ahead of the world junior championships on Wednesday.
Misa was the CHL's leading scorer last season with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit. Despite his scoring prowess, he was a controversial omission from last year’s Canadian team, which was eliminated in the quarterfinals for a second year in a row.
The 18-year-old has one goal and two assists in seven games with the Sharks this season after being selected second overall in June's draft.
Hockey Canada originally announced on Dec. 12 that Misa was listed as day-to-day and would stay behind with the San Jose Sharks for the start of training camp. He has missed NHL time this season with a lower-body injury.
Canada training camp is currently underway in Niagara Falls, Ont. The tournament begins Dec. 26 in Minnesota.
