Victor Plante scored the super-overtime goal to give the United States National Team Development Program's under-18 team a win over Team CHL on Wednesday in the second annual CHL USA Prospects Challenge in Lethbridge, Alta.
A three-on-three super overtime, with the first goal winning it, was required after the CHL evened the two-game series with a 4-3 win.
The Americans won 4-2 the night before in Calgary.
The series showcased players mostly eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft.
The result was an upset as Team CHL has far more players considered first-round prospects for next year's NHL Draft. However, the Americans play together all year, with many of their games in the USHL.
Plante is the son of ex-NHLer Derek Plante and the younger brother of NCAA scoring leaders Max and Zam Plante of Minnesota-Duluth. Victor Plante also is slated to play hockey at the school.
Team CHL rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win Game 2, with Blainville-Boisbriand Armada star defenceman Xavier Villeneuve scoring the winner with 3:11 left.
JP Hurlbert of the Kamloops Blazers, Caleb Malhotra of the Brantford Bulldogs and Alessandro Di Iorio of the Sarnia Sting also scored for the CHL.
Plante, AJ Garcia and Jamie Glance scored for the Americans.
