WHL Roundup: Ice stay perfect after win over Broncos

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Ice notched their seventh consecutive victory to begin the Western Hockey League season by defeating the Swift Current Broncos 3-1 on Sunday.

The Ice, which outshot the Broncos 45-19, came from behind a goal to improve to 7-0-0.

Mikey Milne tied the game for Winnipeg with 34 seconds left in the second period with his fifth of the year.

Connor McClennon, with his sixth, scored the game-winner 17 seconds into the third before Skyler Bruce padded the lead at 16:37.

Alexander Gage made 18 saves.

Mathew Ward beat Gage in the first period to put Swift Current (2-4-1) ahead 1-0. The Broncos are winless in five games.

Winnipeg has outscored its opponents 43-11 to start the new campaign.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Craig Armstrong broke a 2-2 tie in the third period and added an empty-net goal in the dying seconds to lead Prince George (2-3-0) over Victoria (1-6-0). The Royals outshot the Cougars 33-22.
