Bedard Watch: Pats phenom has 35-game point streak snapped vs. Hurricanes

Connor Bedard finally was held off the scoresheet on Friday.

For the first time since suiting up in the Regina Pats’ season opener back on Sept. 23, Bedard failed to tally a point in a 3-2 road win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes, snapping his incredible 35-game WHL point streak in the process.

Bedard put up an astronomical 44 goals and 46 assists over the 35-game tear, but fell 12 games short of the Pats’ record of 47 games set by both Jock Callander and Wally Schreiber in the 1981-82 season.

The 17-year-old centre also had his 11-game goal streak broken, falling four short of the Pats’ record set by Dale Derkatch in 1982-83. Bedard had 22 goals during the 11-game run.

Regina came back from a 2-1 deficit in the third period for the win, scoring two goals just over a minute apart to take a 3-2 lead, but Bedard was not on the ice for either goal.

BEDARD’S SEASON TOTALS: 37 GP, 44 G, 46 A, 90 Pts.

PATS’ RECORD: 24-21-3 (Seventh in Eastern Conference)

UP NEXT: The Pats are in Medicine Hat to face the Tigers, who are ninth in the East, on Friday at 6 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. MT.

With Bedard the top-ranked prospect for the 2023 NHL Draft, here’s a look at the current lottery odds. There will be two lottery draws where the top two picks are up for grabs. The percentages below indicate the chances of a team winning the first lottery when the top pick is in play. However, teams can only move up a maximum of 10 spots in order, so if a team outside of the bottom 11 wins the first draw, they won’t get the first overall pick. Therefore, while the 32nd-ranked team has an 18.5 per cent to win the first lottery, they still have a 25.5 per cent chance to pick first overall.
