Shane Wright likely to be traded at OHL deadline

On this edition of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek discuss the possible trade targets, this season's best valued contracts, Shane Wright's potential destination ahead of OHL deadline, and more.

Shane Wright will “absolutely” be dealt by the Kingston Frontenacs ahead ofTuesday’s OHL trade deadline, according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek.

“The Kingston Frontenacs will be moving him,” Marek said on Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment. “He was fielding offers all day long — it’s his decision where he wants to go. The strong speculation is, again, the London Knights.”

Wright, who was in attendance at Saturday night’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena, is coming off a successful stint as captain of the Canadian World Junior squad. The centre scored a goal and helped Canada to a 3-2 gold-medal victory over Czechia on Thursday, his 19th birthday.

The Burlington, Ont., native was selected fourth overall by the Seattle Kraken in last year’s NHL Draft. He scored one goal and one assist in eight games for the NHL club this season and potted four goals in five games with its AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

The Kraken recently assigned Wright back to the OHL, where he’s tallied 71 goals and 160 points over 121 games over his junior career.
