A Canadian international is heading to Spain.
Midfielder Nathan Saliba will be transferring to La Liga club Villarreal from Belgian club Anderlecht, according to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The agreement, worth 15 million euros ($24.2 million CAD), is pending a medical.
Insider Sacha Tavolieri first reported Villarreal's interest in Saliba on Aug. 20.
Saliba, 22, was starting his second season with Anderlecht after three seasons in MLS with CF Montreal.
A native of Longueuil, Que., Saliba has 17 caps for Canada, including three at the World Cup earlier this summer. He memorably replaced Ismaël Koné in Canada's midfield after an injury against Qatar, then scored a goal and held his hands up in the shape of a No. 8 to honour his fallen teammate.
