The Toronto Blue Jays assigned eight players to minor league camp Thursday, reducing their roster to 40 players.
Among those assigned are left-handed starter Nick Allgeyer and top prospect infielder Jordan Groshans.
Allgeyer, 26, remains a depth option as a starter for the Blue Jays if any members of the rotation are added to the injured list this season. In two spring starts this season Allgeyer had a 1.93 ERA and three strikeouts.
Groshans was a non-roster invitee to camp. The 22-year-old infielder was the Blue Jays' first-round pick (eighth overall) in 2018 and is the team's No. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
Other players reassigned Thursday include:
• RHP Jeremy Beasley
• RHP Joe Biagini
• C Kellin Deglan
• RHP José De León
• RHP Kyle Johnston
• RHP Graham Spraker
The Blue Jays have 21 pitchers and 19 position players left in camp, with 10 of those players non-roster invites.
