Denzel Clarke's road back to the Athletics lineup has been delayed.
The defensive star centre fielder suffered a significant hamstring strain during a triple-A rehab game on Tuesday and won't be reassessed until after the all-star break, the team announced on Thursday.
Clarke was rehabbing a foot injury that had caused him to miss the last month of MLB baseball. He was hurt on April 20.
After making his big-league debut last season, the Toronto native quickly made a name for himself as one of the best defenders in the sport by constantly making highlight-reel plays.
But while his glove was among the league's best, his bat has yet to close the gap.
In 22 games this season, Clarke sported a disastrous slash line of .170/.228/.189 with just nine hits total. He also struck out 24 times, while walking just four times.
The Athletics currently sit in first place in the AL West.
