Dodgers' Betts, Yankees' LeMahieu named as finalists for MVP award

Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves and Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres were named finalists for the National League's Most Valuable Player award.

Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox, DJ LeMahieu of the New York Yankees and Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Indians have also been named finalists for the MVP award in the American League.

Freeman led the NL in WAR with 3.4. The 31-year-old also .341/.462/.640 with 13 home runs during the regular season.

While Betts shined during the post-season, he also put up excellent numbers during the regular season. The 28-year-old and former AL MVP Award smashed 16 homers and recorded 39 RBIs while hitting .292/.366/.562.

Machado also hit 16 home runs this season. The 28-year-old also tallied 47 RBI and hit .304/.370/.580.

In the American League, LeMahieu led the league in offensive production. The Yankee infielder finished with a 2.5 WAR and hit an MLB-best .364 with 10 homers.

Abreu finished the season with a 2.6 WAR and a .317 hitting average. The 33-year-old smashed 19 home runs and tallied 60 RBIs as well.

After a difficult 2019 season, Ramirez put up excellent number in 2020. The 28-year-old hit .292/.386/.607 while notching 17 home runs, 10 steals and a 3.4 WAR.

The winners of the MVP awards will be announced on Nov. 12.
