Blue Jays acquire LHP Anthony Banda from Pirates for cash considerations

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired left-handed pitcher Anthony Banda from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon. In return, the Blue Jays will send cash considerations.

Additionally, the Blue Jays have added right-hander Julian Merryweather to the 60-day injured list.

The 28-year-old was a 10th-round pick by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 MLB Draft. Banda has appeared in 23 games for the Pirates this season with a 6.41 ERA in 19.2 innings and 22 strikeouts, five walks and three home runs allowed. His expected-ERA projects at an improved 3.93.
