The Toronto Blue Jays are adding some more pitching depth.
Toronto acquired right-hander Robinson Piña from the Miami Marlins in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Colby Martin, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi confirmed on Wednesday morning.
MLB.com's Christina De Nicola was first to report the news.
Piña is expected to report to triple-A Buffalo and is seen as extra depth and another bulk/relief option, per Davidi.
Piña was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Saturday after making his MLB debut the day before.
The 26-year-old allowed one run and one hit in one inning during his debut with Miami. Over 13 games — 11 of them starts — in triple-A this season, Piña posted a 3.47 ERA over 57.0 innings while striking out 54.
A six-foot-five hurler from the Dominican Republic, Piña throws a slider, fastball, splitter and sinker.
Martin was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2024 draft out of Southeastern University.
A converted infielder, Martin posted a 1.54 ERA over 23.1 innings in the Blue Jays system this season. The 24-year-old started the year with single-A Dunedin before being promoted to high-A Vancouver last Friday.
