Blue Jays activate Hernandez, designate Roark for assignment

Hazel Mae sits down with Blue Jays Silver Slugger Teoscar Hernandez to discuss his son already turning one years old, the emotions of winning the Silver Slugger award last season, his 2019 demotion that was the low point of his career, and much more.

The Toronto Blue Jays activated outfielder Teoscar Hernandez from the COVID-19 injured list Friday before their game against the Atlanta Braves and designated right-hander Tanner Roark for assignment.

Hernandez tested positive for the coronavirus on April 13 and was cleared to return to team facilities on April 23. The 28-year-old spent the past week at Toronto's alternate training site as he worked his way back into playing shape.

The 2020 Silver Slugger was off to a slow start at the plate prior to his absence, slashing just .207/.207/.310 with one home run in seven games.

In a corresponding roster move, outfielder Jonathan Davis was assigned to the team's alternate site.

In three appearances this season, the 34-year-old Roark has a 6.43 ERA and 1.286 WHIP over seven innings.

First pitch between the Blue Jays and Braves is scheduled for 7:37 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.
