The Toronto Blue Jays' pitching carousel continued to spin between games on Tuesday.
Toronto activated reliever Paxton Schultz ahead of Game 2 of the club's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles and optioned Game 1 starter, Easton Lucas, to triple-A Buffalo, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
Schultz has been on the injured list since June 29 with finger inflammation.
Before hitting the IL, the 27-year-old righty has posted a 4.56 ERA in 23.2 innings for the Blue Jays. He made two rehab appearances — one in the FCL and one at triple-A — on his way back to the major-league team, allowing just one hit over 4.2 innings while striking out nine.
Schultz will provide a bulk option for Toronto behind Game 2 starter Eric Lauer.
Lucas threw 2.2 innings for the Blue Jays on Tuesday, allowing four hits and four runs in what ended as a 16-4 loss to the Orioles.
After some early big-league success with Toronto this season, Lucas has struggled in his last three MLB starts and now owns a 6.66 ERA in 2025.
