The Toronto Blue Jays added slugger Daniel Vogelbach to their major-league roster Friday, optioning pitcher Sean Reid-Foley to the team’s alternate training site.
Toronto acquired Vogelbach on Aug. 23 in exchange for cash after he was designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners. The first baseman/designated hitter was slashing .094/.250/.226 through 18 games with Seattle, collecting a double, two home runs and four RBIs.
The 27-year-old had a breakout season in 2019, hitting 30 homers with 76 RBIs, which led to him earning his first all-star nod. Vogelbach figures to bolster a Blue Jays bench that has been short on power, particularly from the left side of the plate.
