The injury bug continues to bite the Toronto Blue Jays.
Outfielder Addison Barger exited Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning with bilateral ankle discomfort, the team announced.
Barger appeared to tweak something in the top of the third, when he grounded out to shortstop to end the inning. As he tried to beat out the infield single, Barger lunged for the base and looked uncomfortable immediately after.
Blue Jays manager Schneider came out to speak with Barger, but the 26-year-old stayed in the game at the time.
“Hopefully he's all right. Hopefully it's just a day or two, or maybe not even a day," Schneider told reporters post-game.
Barger eventually was replaced in right field by Jesús Sánchez in the bottom of the sixth. He did come up to the plate in the top half of the inning and flew out to centre field.
It marked an 0-for-3 afternoon for Barger, who saw his average drop to .053 amid a slow start to the season.
Barger was a key piece of Toronto's run to an AL East title in 2025, hitting 21 homers with a .756 OPS in 135 games.
