The Toronto Blue Jays' catching tandem is back intact.
Backup Tyler Heineman avoided arbitration with the team, agreeing to a one-year, $1.2375 million contract for next season, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reported on Thursday.
Heineman proved to be strong insurance for starter Alejandro Kirk last season, producing career highs of three home runs, 20 RBIs and a .289 batting average over 61 games.
The 34-year-old joined the Blue Jays for a third stint with the club in 2024, appearing in five games before winning the 2025 backup job in spring training.
Over 172 games also with the Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox, Heineman owns a career .240 batting average with four home runs and 35 RBIs.
Three other Blue Jays — Daulton Varsho, Ernie Clement and Eric Lauer — are also eligible for arbitration. The formal deadline to settle is Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.
