It's good news and bad news for Toronto Blue Jays infielder Addison Barger.
The good news is that the infielder did not break a bone when he was hit by a pitch from Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet on Sunday.
The bad news is there was still some swelling on his hand Monday morning and he is considered day-to-day, according to manager John Schneider.
Schneider added that Barger will attempt to swing a bat on Monday to gauge how much pain he has.
The pitch was ruled to hit the knob of Barger's bat and was called a foul ball.
He was replaced mid-at-bat by infield prospect Charles McAdoo, who ended up striking out.
The 25-year-old Barger is competing for a spot on the Blue Jays this spring. In 2024, he appeared in 69 games with Toronto, slashing .197/.250/.351 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs.
