The Toronto Blue Jays were without Bo Bichette for their series-opening win over the New York Yankees on Monday night.
The shortstop was scratched from the Jays' lineup prior to first pitch on Monday after experiencing right knee discomfort during his batting practice round. It'll be the first game he's missed this season.
After the 5-4 win, manager John Schneider told reporters that Bichette stepped on a ball during batting practice, which led to the knee discomfort. However, there aren't any plans for imaging, so the team's concern level isn't super high, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Ernie Clement slotted in for Bichette at SS and the leadoff spot in the lineup.
The two-time all-star is slashing .272/.311/.427 through 356 at-bats this season for 11 home runs and a team-leading 49 RBIs. He also leads Toronto this season in hits (97) and games played (83).
The home series might prove vital to Toronto's post-season hopes as it enters the matchup 3.0 games back of New York for top spot in the AL East. Catch the Blue Jays take on the Yankees on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
