Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette will be back in the lineup on Saturday night after missing nearly a month with a knee sprain.
To make room on the roster, the Blue Jays have optioned right-hander Jacob Waguespack to the club’s alternate training site.
Bichette last played on Aug. 15 and was placed on the injured list the following day. He posted a .361/.391/.672 slash line in 14 games prior to the injury. He leads all Blue Jays with a 182 OPS+.
This past week, Bichette took part in some simulation games at Toronto’s alternate training site in Rochester, N.Y., as the final stage of his rehab.
In Bichette’s absence, rookie Santiago Espinal and trade deadline acquisition Jonathan Villar filled in at shortstop, but neither Espinal (60 OPS+) nor Villar (68 OPS+) are nearly as effective at the plate.
Following Friday’s 18-1 loss to the Mets, the Blue Jays host New York again on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:37 p.m. ET at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, N.Y.
