If losing 8-3 to the New York Yankees on Sunday wasn't tough enough for the Toronto Blue Jays, they could now be without Bo Bichette for a bit as the shortstop took a pitch to the elbow in the game's sixth inning.
Bichette would finish the game despite getting dinged by a 99 m.p.h. pitch and being in some visible discomfort, but after the game, he remained non-commital on the impact of the injury.
He'd end the contest with one hit and an RBI through two at-bats.
After the game, manager John Schneider kept a similar tone when speaking to reporters, saying "it's just kind of a bruise right now."
"He's sore, it just kind of presents as a bruise, (but) he's a tough guy to get out of the lineup obviously, so we'll see how he is tonight and tomorrow."
The Jays have already faced their fair share of offensive woes with Bichette in the lineup as they're the 26th-ranked team in the league so far with a .198 batting average and 24th in total hits (57). The 26-year-old has played a part in that as he's struggled to start the season with a .172 average through 29 at-bats, for six hits, three runs, and three RBIs.
Toronto returns to action on Monday, on the heels of a series loss to division rival New York, by visiting the Seattle Mariners. They currently hold a 4-6 record and are in last place in the AL East, four games behind the Yankees.
