The Toronto Blue Jays got Chad Green back from his rehab stint Tuesday, and more bullpen help appears to be on the way.
Bowden Francis threw 3.2 innings in relief for triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, tossing 60 pitches — 39 for strikes — allowing one hit, one unearned run and no walks while striking out five hitters.
The 28-year-old was making his fourth rehab appearance since being put on the injured list with right forearm extensor tendinitis on April 25.
Francis began the season in the Blue Jays starting rotation but was moved to the bullpen after struggling through two starts. In total, he has an 8.59 ERA and 17 strikeouts through 14.2 MLB innings, but out of the bullpen, his ERA stands at 2.84.
During his time rehabbing in triple-A, the six-foot-five right-hander has split his time between starting and working as a reliever.
In his outing against the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday, Francis topped out at 94.6 m.p.h. with his fastball.
According to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, the Blue Jays were working through whether Francis needed another triple-A appearance after his last outing on May 22.
