Toronto Blue Jays catching prospect Alejandro Kirk will make his MLB debut on Saturday evening against the New York Mets, according to manager Charlie Montoyo.
Kirk, 21, is the No. 6 prospect (and top catcher) in the Blue Jays’ system, as per MLB Pipeline. He has a .918 OPS in his minor league career, which spans 151 games across Rookie, A and advanced-A ball.
He was added to Toronto’s three-player taxi squad on Aug. 31, then promoted to the active roster on Friday.
The Blue Jays have struggled mightily to find offence from their catchers so far this season. Danny Jansen, Reese McGuire and Caleb Joseph have combined for a .508 OPS and just eight extra-base hits in 163 plate appearances.
