Blue Jays continue road trip in Atlanta as Tuesday underdogs

MLB Fantasy analyst Derek Carty joins Follow The Money to discuss whether the Blue Jays offence is hitting at the pace that his analytics predicted ahead of their start in Florida, and whether it'll change much when they move to Buffalo.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to stay undefeated against the Atlanta Braves this season when they open a three-game interleague series on Tuesday night as consensus +122 road underdogs on the betting lines at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Toronto swept Atlanta in a three-game set on home turf last month, but has produced uneven results on its current road trip with wins in just three of seven outings heading into Tuesday night's matchup at Truist Park.

The Blue Jays came up short in a high-scoring series in Houston this past weekend, dropping two of three, capped by Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Astros as +140 underdogs. Overall, the team was outscored by the Astros by a 21-16 margin. With the Blue Jays both regularly generating offence and surrendering big run totals, the OVER has paid out in each of their past five outings, and in 10 of their past 12 games, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

That high-scoring trend also extends to the Braves' visit to TD Ballpark for a three-game series two weeks ago. The Blue Jays dominated Atlanta during that sweep, outscoring the Braves by a 26-12 margin. However, the team has struggled to produce similar results in recent trips to Atlanta. Toronto hitters averaged just 2.2 runs per game while falling to defeat in four of five road meetings with the Braves last season, dumping the team to 3-6 in nine dates in Atlanta since 2015.

Despite their recent road woes and a rash of injuries, the Blue Jays remain in the thick of a tight AL East race. Toronto entered the week trailing the first-place Boston Red Sox by just four games in the standings, and maintains +450 odds at online sports betting sites to claim its first division title since 2015.

While the Blue Jays look to reverse their recent shaky play on the road, the Braves are aiming to maintain their current hot streak as they prepare to hit the diamond on Tuesday night. Like the Blue Jays, the Braves are coming off a high-scoring weekend series, which they closed out with a 6-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Overall, the Braves have tallied wins in five of their last six outings, and they sport a 5-2 record over their past seven road dates.

However, streaky play has so far marked Atlanta's 2021 campaign. The team has lost four in a row on three occasions to date, and has won three in a row on home turf just once while compiling a middling 9-8 record at Truist Park.
