The Toronto Blue Jays will give left-hander Easton Lucas the ball as they go for a series sweep of the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
It will be the first start and 15th appearance for Lucas in the majors.
Kevin Gausman, who followed Tuesday's starter Jose Berrios in the first turn through the rotation, will start Friday against the Mets. Lucas will take Max Scherzer's spot after the future Hall of Famer was placed on the injured list with a thumb issue.
Lucas, 28, made two appearances for the Blue Jays last year and eight overall split between the Athletics, Tigers and Jays.
In spring training, he was stretched out as a starter and posted an 8.64 ERA in four appearances.
