George Springer continues to take steps forward in his recovery from a knee sprain.
The Toronto Blue Jays were encouraged by the progress Springer has made after hitting in the batting cage and running on the field. The next steps for Springer will be having him run the bases.
Springer was placed on the 10-day IL with a Grade 1 knee sprain after he collided with an outfield wall in Seattle last Saturday. There is no timeline for when the 31-year-old could return to the lineup.
Ross Stripling has started throwing for the first time since being shut down the last 10 days after suffering a left oblique strain. The right-hander could throw a side session on Friday as the team tries to build him up to throw two to three innings, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reports.
The 31-year-old has posted a 5-6 record with a 4.34 ERA, 1.221 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 93.1 innings of work this season.
Catcher Danny Jansen ran the bases on Sunday and likely starts a rehab assignment at triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. Jansen was placed on the 10-day IL on July 23 with a right hamstring strain.
