Mason Fluharty's season is off to a rough start.
The Toronto Blue Jays reliever was forced to exit Saturday's game against the Athletics in the seventh after taking back-to-back comebackers to the inside of his right leg.
The first came off the bat of Athletics second baseman Jeff McNeil, who bounced a one-hopper up the middle that came off his bat at 98.9 m.p.h.
Fluharty was able to stay in the game after consulting with team training staff and throwing some test pitches.
Three pitches later, however, Max Muncy grounded a cutter that appeared to hit Fluharty on his right knee, sending the lefty to the ground immediately.
The 24-year-old was in visible pain after taking the hit and had to be helped off the field by Vladimir Guerro Jr. and head trainer Jose Ministral.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters after the game that Fluharty suffered a right knee contusion and the X-rays came back negative.
Schneider added that the southpaw should be good for Sunday.
Brendon Little entered to replace Fluharty in the inning, eventually allowing the two inherited runners to score in the inning after a single from Denzel Clarke and a grand slam by Shea Langeliers.
Saturday was Fluharty's first appearance of the season, with McNeil and Muncy being the first two hitters he faced.
Over 52.2 innings during his rookie 2025 campaign, Fluharty posted a 4.44 ERA and struck out 56 batters.
