It's safe to say Kevin Gausman has been on top form to start the 2026 MLB season.
The Toronto Blue Jays starter made history against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday as he became the only pitcher since at least 1900 with 10-plus strikeouts and no walks through each of their first two starts of the season.
Gausman pitched six scoreless innings on Wednesday, giving up just two hits to go with 10 Ks.
It was an impressive follow-up performance after the 35-year-old took the mound on Opening Day against the Athletics, striking out 11 batters and giving up just one run through six innings en route to a 3-2 win.
The righty is in Year 5 with the Blue Jays and is coming off a solid 2025 season that saw him post a 3.59 ERA through 32 starts. Gausman also made five starts for Toronto on its run to the World Series, making six total appearances. He held a 2.93 ERA through 30.2 innings during the 2025 post-season.
Gausman's steady play to start the season has been especially impactful, considering the Blue Jays pitching rotation has been battered by injuries.
Already without starters Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios, Cody Ponce's season debut was cut short due to a knee injury that will cause him to miss "significant time," according to manager John Schneider.
The Blue Jays wrap up a three-game set against the Rockies on Wednesday before heading to Chicago for a three-game series against the White Sox — Toronto's first road trip of the season — that will now begin on Friday instead of Thursday. Dylan Cease is set to take the mound for the Blue Jays in his second start of the season.
