George Springer is being recognized for some of his work off the field.
The Blue Jays veteran was one of 30 players nominated for MLB's 2026 Roberto Clemente award, the league announced on Monday.
As part of MLB's annual Roberto Clemente Day celebrations on Sept. 15, the 30 players nominated will be celebrated league-wide, as nominees are selected based on their involvement in philanthropic efforts and community involvement.
"The Roberto Clemente Award is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field," as explained by MLB in a statement.
Every year, each MLB team nominates a player to be considered for the award in tribute to Clemente's achievements and character, and this year's group includes 14 first-time nominees and seven 2026 all-stars.
As for Springer, he's being nominated for the second time over his 13-year career. The four-time all-star was previously nominated in his sophomore season back in 2015, when Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates won the award.
Should Springer take home the award this time around, when it's announced during the 2026 World Series, he'd be the first Blue Jays player to do so. Toronto is currently one of six active franchises without a winner of the Roberto Clemente award, alongside the Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals.
Last year's winner was Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
