Blue Jays' George Springer returning to lineup Sunday vs. Rays

Watch as Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer suffers an apparent leg injury after making a leaping catch attempt at a hard-hit ball to centre field.

Toronto Blue Jays slugger George Springer is returning to the lineup, slotting in as the designated hitter for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Springer exited Friday's game against the Rays with a left ankle sprain after attempting to catch a fly ball in the bottom of the second inning. The three-time All-Star leaped near the centre-field wall to catch a ball hit by Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe before landing awkwardly. He was then ruled day-to-day by manager Charlie Montoyo.

In 32 games this season, Springer has seven home runs, 18 RBIs and is slashing .278/.338/.522.

Alek Manoah takes the mound for Sunday's game, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:40 p.m. ET. Watch it live on Sportsnet ONE or SN NOW.
