Buffalo baseball fans got a glimpse of why George Springer is so valuable to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.
Springer — playing his first game since he was hit on the head by a pitch on July 28 — walked, doubled and scored a pair of runs in three plate appearances as a designated hitter for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
"Good day," Springer told reporters after the rehab game. "I'm excited about it."
After flying out to right field in his first at-bat, Springer had much more success in his second two times up against the Philadelphia Phillies' top farm club.
After his walk, Springer went first to third on a base hit, sliding into third base.
"That's my style of game," he said. "I got told if I got a chance to do it, I need to make sure to do it. I felt good about it."
Springer then worked his way to another full count before lacing a double into left with an exit velocity of 105.8 m.p.h.
The Blue Jays planned to have Springer DH on Thursday and then play the outfield on Friday for Buffalo.
Could that change?
"We're going to see what they say," he said. "I'm just going to do what I'm told. I understand there's a plan and process that has to be followed."
