After an extended post-injury stint as the Toronto Blue Jays' designated hitter, George Springer will make his return to centre field today against the Minnesota Twins.

Springer, who suffered a Grade 1 sprain in his left knee after running into the outfield wall while chasing a ball in August, had filled the DH role regularly since his return.

The 32-year-old missed time earlier this season with oblique and quad issues as well.

Springer has 17 home runs and 37 RBIs across 261 plate appearances this season.

Springer's return to centre field comes at an opportune time for the Blue Jays, who will be without Lourdes Gurriel Jr. as he recovers from having his fingers stitched to address an injury he sustained after Randal Grichuk inadvertently stepped on his hand last night.

The Blue Jays continue their push for the playoffs tonight with the second of a four-game series against the Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis. Watch the game live on Sportsnet starting at 8 p.m. ET.
