The Toronto Blue Jays are getting some additional clarity as to the nature of Spencer Arrighetti's foot injury.
Arrighetti has been diagnosed with Morton's neuroma, a condition related to a damaged or enlarged nerve that causes pain in the bottom of the foot, manager John Schneider told reporters on Monday.
According to Schneider, it can "feel like you have a rock in your shoe."
Despite the injury, the Blue Jays hope that Arrighetti can pitch through it while the issue is treated.
“As far as timeline, we'll see. We're hoping he can pitch through it and feel better with treatment, but it's kind of a new one for me,” Schneider said.
Arrighetti has not yet pitched for the Blue Jays since being acquired from the Houston Astros for Daulton Varsho at the trade deadline.
The last time the 26-year-old pitched was on July 24 against the Chicago White Sox, starting the game but only pitching one inning before being removed with injury. He was then placed on the 15-day injured list by the Astros.
On the season, the Albuquerque, N.M., native has a 4.60 ERA and 1.341 WHIP in 88 innings spread over 17 starts.
Since entering the league in 2024, he has a 4.66 ERA and 1.386 WHIP in 53 games (52 starts).
