Blue Jays' Gurriel Jr. to undergo MRI after exiting game with hamstring discomfort

Watch as Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. departs the Blue Jays' matchup with the Baltimore Orioles, appearing to injure his leg after lunging to beat out a double play.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. exited Wednesday's win against the Baltimore Orioles with left hamstring discomfort after running hard to beat out a double play in the second inning.

The Blue Jays said following the 4-1 victory that Gurriel would undergo an MRI of his left leg to determine the extent of his injury. The club will then determine next steps on Thursday.

Gurriel, who was playing left field, immediately grabbed his left leg and went down after beating out the throw. After being attended to for several minutes, he walked off the field with trainer Jose Ministral.

Whit Merrifield replaced Gurriel as a pinch runner.

Merrifield went to right field in the bottom of the inning with Raimel Tapia going from right to left.

The Blue Jays already were down one regular outfielder with Teoscar Hernandez going on the paternity list before Wednesday's game.

Gurriel is slashing .291/.343/,400 with five home runs and 52 RBI this season.

It marks the second year in a row Gurriel has suffered an injury in a September playoff drive.

Last September, Gurriel suffered a lacerated hand when former Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk accidentally stepped on him during a throw.
