The Toronto Blue Jays have appointed Carlos Febles as their new third base coach, general manager Ross Atkins announced on Tuesday.
Long-time coach Luis Rivera, who previously held the role with the Blue Jays, announced his retirement last month, which created the opening.
Febles spent the previous six seasons as the third base coach for the Boston Red Sox and was part of that organization as either a coach or minor-league manager since 2007. In that role, Febles won the World Series with the Red Sox in 2018.
He was relieved of his duties following the 2023 season after the Red Sox finished last in the AL East with a .481 win percentage.
As a player, Febles played second base for the Royals for 504 goals from 1999 to 2004.
Bench coach Don Mattingly -- who is interviewing for the Milwaukee Brewers manager role -- will remain in that position in addition to taking on offensive coordinator duties if he stays with the club.
