Toronto Blue Jays starter Hyun Jin Ryu left Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the fourth inning with a right glute strain.
Ryu motioned to Danny Jansen to come to the mound before manager Charlie Montoyo and pitching coach Pete Walker came out from the dugout to remove Ryu from the game.
Tim Mayza was brought in to take over for Ryu, inheriting a runner on first with two outs in the fourth.
The 34-year-old Ryu was pitching a gem, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out five through 3.2 innings.
In five appearances this season, Ryu is 1-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 26 strikeouts through 27.2 innings.
