One of the lone Toronto Blue Jays hitters exceeding expectations this season may be unavailable moving forward.
Infielder Luis Urias left Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs with right-quad discomfort, manager John Schneider told reporters after a 3-2 loss in extra innings. Schneider added that Urias will get an MRI on Friday in Philadelphia.
Urias hit a ball off the outfield wall at Wrigley Field in the top of the fourth, but grimaced as he rounded first base before slowly sliding into second base safely for a double.
Schneider and Blue Jays trainer Jose Ministral went to check on Urias, who tested out his leg and stayed in the game for the rest of the half-frame.
However, he did not take the field in the bottom half, instead replaced by trade-deadline pickup Josh Smith, who slotted in at third base with Ernie Clement moving to second.
Urias, also acquired in a trade earlier this season, has enjoyed a solid first season with the Blue Jays, holding a .776 OPS with three home runs and eight RBIs entering action Thursday.
Toronto is in the midst of a busy stretch of schedule with its next off-day not coming until Aug. 17 after three series — on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies and back home against the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
