Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios has been having a career-best start to the season, and he's getting the recognition he deserves.
The 29-year-old has been named the American League Pitcher of the Month, the MLB announced on Friday. Philadelphia Phillies' Ranger Suarez got the nod for the National League.
In seven starts and 43.2 innings so far this season, Berrios posted a 1.44 ERA with 31 strikeouts, 13 walks and four wins. He was named the Blue Jays' Opening Day starter in March.
Berrios was acquired by the Blue Jays in July 2021 from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Austin Martin and Simeon Woods Richardson. He signed a seven-year, $131 million extension in Toronto in November of that year.
